Surplus and Liquidation Auctions in the US

Surplus auctions are government auctions where the different agencies of the government sell their surplus, confiscated and forfeited items to the general public. Here, you can buy a variety of new and used government owned assets. And, anyone can bid in these auctions, really. The different assets included in these auctions may come from your local, county or state governments with the different government agencies and authorities like schools etc. all contributing to the auctions. The items from these government surplus auctions are usually affordable and authentic.

Here is a list of items to give you a general idea of what kinds of things are being auctioned off at these auctions:

  1. Agricultural equipment and farm supplies
  2. Aircrafts and aviation equipment
  3. Boats, yachts and other marine equipment
  4. Communication equipment including phones and radios
  5. Computers, computer equipment and accessories
  6. Construction and building equipment
  7. Electronics and gadgets
  8. Fire trucks and other fire fighting equipment
  9. Furniture and such
  10. Household and personal items
  11. Industrial machinery and vehicles
  12. Miscellaneous artifacts, jewelry and other such items
  13. Medical, dental, and veterinary equipment and supplies including ambulances
  14. Motorbikes and bicycles
  15. NASA surplus and special items
  16. Office equipment and supplies
  17. Photography equipment
  18. Scientific lab equipment
  19. Tools and shop equipment
  20. Trailers, tractors and mobile homes
  21. Real estate - lands and properties
  22. Vehicles like cars, trucks and buses

You can buy any of these things at a government surplus liquidation auction. However, it is important to note that no surplus auction has all of these items available at one time. An auction will only have a particular selection of items available depending on what things the government has in surplus equipment and is able to auction off to the general public. Another important thing to note would be that no police or military equipment that is dangerous is sold just like that - they are first rendered useless. For example, you can buy an actual tank at a military surplus auction but you can only drive it and it will not be able to fire its cannon. You will also need the required licenses and permissions to buy such equipment.
